Greek trahana soup is a favorite among monks for its comforting and nourishing qualities. Its simple yet flavorful taste makes it a staple in the monks' diet, providing warmth and sustenance during their daily routines. You should try this recipe from Mount Athos and be suprised by its unique taste.
We put the water, milk, oil and butter in a pan and let them boil.
We slowly pour the trahana into the pot without stopping the stirring.
We crumble the feta and add it to the pot.
We let the soup boil for 10 minutes on a very low heat and then remove it from the heat.
We serve freshly ground pepper.
If we use sour trahana then we replace the milk with extra water.
