Horiatiki salad, also known as Greek village salad or Greek salad, is a classic Mediterranean dish known for its fresh and vibrant flavors. It is a combination of Greek vegetables and feta cheese. Monks use to make it, as it is nutritious and easy at the same time, they just skip the feta cheese when it is not ablution days. Try this recipe for authentic horiatiki salad from Mount Athos.

We wash our vegetables and cut them into slices.

In a large bowl, we combine the tomatoes, cucumber, red onion and pepper.

We crumble the feta cheese over the vegetables and add Kalamata olives. 

Then, we drizzle the salad with olive oil. 

We season well with salt and black pepper.

We mix the salad well to combine all the ingredients.

Then, we sprinkle with dried oregano.

Tips

We can add wahtever colour of peppers we woyld like.

If we want, we can add caper.

If we are fasting, we can replace feta cheese with vegan cheese or some substitude.
