Fasting Greek bougatsa
The fasting Greek bougatsa is a favorite sweet that the Orthodox monks here on Mount Athos usually make. This sweet treat is perfect for satisfying cravings during fasting. It's an easy and delicious recipe that anyone can make. Try this fasting recipe for sweet bougatsa and be surprised by its unique taste. If you want, you can sprinkle some cinnamon or powdered sugar for more enjoyment.
We put the vegetable milk in a pot and let it heat up, without boiling.
We slowly add the sugar and semolina and mix constantly.
Then, we add the baking powder and vanilla.
When the cream thickens, we remove from the heat and add the margarine.
We place one sheet of puff pastry in a greased pan and pour the cream over it, making sure it goes everywhere.
We cover the bougatsa with the second sheet and spread with a little malted margarine.
We bake at 180 degrees in a preheated oven until the leaf turns golden.
We serve with sprinkle cinnamon and powdered sugar.
The cream must be cold when poured into the pan, otherwise the bougatsa will retain too much moisture.
