Samali (Greek semolina cake in syrup)
Samali is a traditional and syrupy sweet that can be served all year round. This dessert is suitable for fasting as it does not contain dairy ingredients and eggs. You can combine this dessert with your Greek coffee.
We mix all the ingredients in a bowl and wait a while for the semolina to rise.
We pour the mixture into an oiled pan, spread it well and bake it at 180 degrees for about 50 minutes.
For the syrup, we boil the water with the sugar for about 5 minutes and leave it aside to cool.
As soon as the cake comes out of the oven, we pour the warm syrup over it.
It is better to serve the next day so that the syrup has been well absorbed.
We make sure that the semolina dissolves well in our mixture without any lumps.
