Verbena tea
Here on Mount Athos, verbena tea is a favored beverage enjoyed at any time of the day. This delightful drink not only offers potential health benefits such as relaxation, stress relief, and immune support but also holds a cherished place in our daily routines. That's why we prefer to make it not only during Lent but also throughout the year. Experience the soothing taste of this relaxing tea and prepare to be pleasantly surprised.
In a small pot or kettle, we bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
We place the bay leaves in a teapot.
As soon as the water boils, we pour over the bay leaves, covering them completely.
We let the leaves boil in the hot water for about 5-10 minutes to infuse the water with flavor.
After steeping, we strain the tea to remove the leaves. We can use a mesh strainer or simply pour the tea through a sieve into a cup.
If we want to sweeten the tea, we add honey or sweetener.
We mix well.
If we use fresh Louisa leaves, rinse the leaves with cold water. If we use dried Louisa leaves, there is no need to wash them.
We can enjoy our tea either hot or iced, just add some ice.
We can adjust the brewing time depending on whether we want a stronger or milder tea.
The number of servings may vary depending on the size of our teapot or cups
