Homemade lemonade
Homemade lemonade is a beloved refreshment cherished on Mount Athos, enjoyed not only during fasting periods but every day. This effortlessly prepared beverage is a staple among the Orthodox monks, offering a delightful way to hydrate while adhering to dietary guidelines. Crafted with meticulous care using fresh ingredients, homemade lemonade epitomizes the culinary heritage of Mount Athos, delivering a revitalizing and invigorating option that nurtures both body and soul during abstention.
We boil water and sugar in a saucepan for about 5 minutes.
Once cool, we add the lemon juice.
We mix well.
We refrigerate it in a jug or bottles.
When we want to enjoy it, we dilute it with water (1/4).
We can accompany with a mint leaf or a spearmint leaf.
We can also cut a slice of lemon and serve our lemonade.
