Herbal Tea
One traditional beverage that is often associated with monastic settings is herbal tea. Monks have a long history of cultivating and enjoying herbal teas for their soothing and health-promoting properties. One specific type of herbal tea is "Monastic Herbal Infusion". This herbal infusion combines chamomile, lavender, and lemon balm—herbs known for their calming and soothing properties. It's a warm and comforting beverage that monks and others seeking a moment of tranquility might enjoy. Adjust the herb quantities and sweetness to suit your taste preferences.
In a teapot or infuser, we combine the dried chamomile flowers, lavender flowers, and lemon balm leaves.
We heat the water to just below boiling.
We pour the hot water over the dried herbs in the teapot or infuser.
We put a lid or a saucer and we cover the container.
We allow the herbs to steep for about 5-7 minutes.
If we use loose herbs, we strain the infusion into cups to remove the herbal leaves and flowers.
We add honey or agave syrup if we prefer a sweeter taste.
Sip the Monastic Herbal Infusion slowly and savor the calming and aromatic qualities of the herbs.
Steeping time can be adjusted based on our preference for tea strength.
