The icon of Virgin Mary of Vladimir, crafted on canvas mounted on wood, with a silver frame, partially gilded and bordered with wood, is one of the most important miraculous icons in Russia. It was built in Constantinople in the 12th century (1131) and was sent as a gift to the Duke of Kiev. In 1395, during Tamerlane's invasion, it was taken to Moscow where it is kept to this day, in the Tretyakov Gallery. She is considered the patron saint of Russia.
