In 1646, on Mount Athos, the refectory monk Nilos heard a voice from an icon of the Virgin Mary telling him not to pass with lit torches, leaving her to smoke. Ignoring her, he became blind, but after intense prayers, he was healed when the Virgin Mary revealed to him that she is the "Gorgoepikoos" and will listen to the prayers of the monks. Since then, the miraculous icon has been located in the Holy Monastery of Dochiariou on Mount Athos and she became an important Greek orthodox pilgrimage.
