This fine oval icon of Saint Sofronios of Essex is depicted in accordance to the tradition of Orthodox iconography. A lithograph copy is placed on artificial wood, the upper side has a curved shape adds a touch of elegance.
Saint Sofronios was born in Russia in 1896. At the age of 30, he decided to dedicate himself to the monastic life and settled in the Russian Monastery of Saint Panteleimon on Mount Athos, where he lived for over two decades. In 1963, he founded an Orthodox Monastery in Essex, England. He was the author of many books and died in 1993. His memory is commemorated every year on July 11.
