This fine oval icon of Saint Meropi is depicted in accordance to the tradition of Orthodox iconography. A lithograph copy is placed on artificial wood, whose arched top adds a touch of elegance.
Saint Meropi, born in Ephesus in the 3rd century AD, fled to Chios with her mother due to persecution. There he was horribly tortured by the pagan lord Numerius, because he took care to bury the relic of Saint Isidore. She remained steadfast in her faith and died in prison. Her memory is commemorated on December 2.
