Holy Bread Seal with byzantine script IC XC NIKA, crafted by Greek Orthodox monks from the Holy Skete of Saint Triada, here on Mount Athos. It is a genuine work hand, faithfully following the Greek orthodox semiology. It is deeply carved, as it is carved by hand, so that the design is clearly imprinted on the dough.
Diameter: 15 cm / 5.9 in approximately
See here the Mount Athos monastic recipe for Prosphora Bread.
Instructions for maintaining the seals:
- We do not wash them, we keep them away from moisture, as there is a risk of them becoming moldy or distorted.
- We do not oil them because the oil will alter their color and later they will turn black.
- Immediately
after use and while the remaining dough is still fresh, clean it with a
toothpick and remove the flour with a brush like a toothbrush.
- Store them in a canvas or paper bag in a drawer or cabinet away from moisture.
