A Mount Athos prayer rope is a sacred "ergocheiron" (handicraft) created by monks on the Holy Mountain in an atmosphere of unceasing prayer. Each knot is intricately tied while the monk recites the Jesus Prayer, making the object a vessel of blessing and a centuries-old tradition.
