Saint George, a Great Martyr and Trophy-bearer, lived in the late 3rd and early 4th century AD, martyred for his faith during the persecutions of Diocletian. His memory is honored on April 23rd, and if it falls before Pascha, on Easter Monday. He is considered the patron saint of the Army, cavalry, farmers, and scouts.
