This fine oval icon of Saint Romanos the Melodist is depicted in accordance to the tradition of Orthodox iconography. A lithograph copy is placed on artificial wood, the upper side has a curved shape adds a touch of elegance.
Saint Romanos the Melodist was born in Emesa, Syria and later settled in Constantinople, where he resided in the cells of the Temple of the Virgin. His talent for poetry was revealed when the Virgin Mary appeared in his dream. He wrote about a thousand compositions, of which only a tenth have survived. His memory is commemorated on October 1st.
