This fine oval icon of Saint Mary Magdalene is depicted in accordance to the tradition of Orthodox iconography. A lithograph copy is placed on artificial wood, whose arched top adds a touch of elegance.
Saint Mary Magdalene came from Magdala. When seven demons possessed her body, Christ freed her and she became His disciple. At the Resurrection, she was the first to visit His tomb and the angels announced His Resurrection to her. In the sacristy of the Holy Monastery of Simonopetra, her left hand has been kept for over 2,000 years. It celebrates on July 22.
