Pyramid oxidized brass vigil lamp for sepulchre.
The light emitted by the vigil lamp at the graves of our dead symbolizes the light of Christ, the very presence of the Lord in our lives, but also the hope for eternal life. The placing vigil lamps in graves and houses is an act of Christian piety that "pleases God and the Saints and relieves the souls of the dead."
Instructions for lighting the vigil lamp: First, add 1 to 2 centimeters of olive oil or pomace oil. Secure the wick well in the wick holder, ensuring it is positioned as low as possible, so that 2/3 of the wick is submerged in the oil. This helps prevent the lamp from smoking and the wick from burning too quickly. Next, place the wick holder in the oil and light the wick. Care should be taken to ensure the flame does not exceed one centimeter in height to avoid smoke and blackening of the surrounding area.
