Who was Saint Jude Thaddeus?
Saint Jude Thaddeus is numbered among the Apostles of Christ and is also known in ecclesiastical tradition by the names Thaddeus and Lebbaeus. He should not be confused with Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Christ.
Saint Jude followed Christ and is associated with the apostolic mission and the proclamation of the Gospel. The Church honours him as an Apostle and witness of the faith, while the faithful ask for his intercessions before God.
Prayer addressed to a Saint does not replace prayer to God. The faithful ask the Saint to intercede for them before Christ, trusting in God's mercy and His holy will.

A novena associated with Saint Jude is widely circulated online. Some versions connect the prayer with a specific number of repetitions and even promise that a request will be fulfilled within a particular period of time.
Prayer, however, should not be treated as a method that guarantees a specific result. In Orthodox spiritual life, the faithful pray with faith, perseverance and humility, while entrusting the outcome to the will and providence of God.
Saint Jude is not Judas Iscariot
The similarity of the names often causes confusion. Saint Jude Thaddeus is not Judas Iscariot. They are different persons.
This distinction is particularly important for anyone encountering the Saint's name for the first time. The New Testament itself refers to "Judas, not Iscariot", distinguishing this disciple from the one who betrayed Christ.
